Costco Samlip Soft Cheesecake Review

When I was at Costco recently, this Samlip Soft Cheesecake caught my eye because it looked so unique, so I had to try it! This Korean cheesecake is quite different from the typical North American cheesecake, especially in its appearance and texture. Read on to find out what I thought of this Samlip Soft Cheesecake from Costco and how it compares to traditional North American cheesecake.

Location in Store

Another unique cheesecake I’ve tried and reviewed from Costco before is the Delcato Japanese Style Cheesecake. This cheesecake is located in the refrigerated deli/dessert section near the Delici Strawberry Shortcake Mousse and the Dessert Italiano Caramel Macchiato.

Taste

The Samlip Soft Cheesecake has a really interesting texture that’s quite different from traditional North American cheesecake. This Korean cheesecake is light, airy and very spongy, with a slightly dry texture that reminds me more of a pancake than a typical creamy cheesecake.

The flavor is also mild, with a light sweetness and subtle tanginess that’s much less pronounced than what you’d typically get from North American cheesecake. Because it has less of that rich cream cheese flavor, the Samlip cheesecake tastes sweeter and isn’t particularly rich or indulgent. On its own, I found the flavor a little plain, but I think it would be delicious served with a berry compote, fresh berries or even a drizzle of maple syrup.

Cost

The box contains 10 individually packaged, decent-sized soft cheesecakes and costs $12.99 Canadian, which seems pretty reasonable to me, especially considering they’re imported from Korea.

Convenience

The cheesecakes need to be kept refrigerated, and the best-before date is about a month from when I purchased them. I’m not sure how freezing them would affect the texture, so I haven’t tried freezing them.

Each soft cheesecake is individually wrapped, making them easy to grab for a quick treat or share with others. I think these would be a good choice for anyone who enjoys light, airy and sweet desserts rather than rich, creamy cheesecake.

Nutrition

Calories

One 70-gram cheesecake contains 220 calories, seven grams of fat, 35 grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, 19 grams of sugar, four grams of sugar alcohol, four grams of protein and 80 milligrams of sodium. Since each soft cheesecake is a decent size, I don’t think 220 calories, seven grams of fat and 19 grams of sugar are particularly excessive for a dessert.

Ingredients

Unfortunately, much like a North American Cheesecake there are a ton of unhealthy ingredients in these packaged soft cheesecakes from Korea. Ingredients like sugar, fructose syrup, sorbitol, palm oil, carrageenan, artificial flavor as well as additives and preservatives. The Samlip Soft Cheesecake contains wheat, egg, milk and soy.

Overall

Give it a try!

These are tasty and definitely different from your typical North American cheesecake. They’re fun to try and would be a good choice for someone looking for a light, airy dessert that’s not overly sweet. While I wouldn’t say they’re my favorite cheesecake, I enjoyed trying something a little different and would recommend them if you’re curious about Korean-style cheesecake.
