Costco Kashi Organic Layered Fruit Bars Review

Fruit leather is a classic snack that I can remember eating throughout my childhood years. These Kashi Organic Layered Fruit Bars are basically just fruit leather in bar form. They use a traditional apple base and combine it with more exciting fruit flavors. I think of fruit leather as more of a kid’s food, but these bars seem to be targeted at adults. Can they breathe some excitement into this tired old snack?

Other fruity products from Costco are the That’s It Mini Fruit Bars, Kirkland Signature Cheese, Fruit and Nut Packs, Welch’s Fruit Snacks, Naked Smoothie Variety Pack, Last Mountain’s Old Fashioned Raspberry Jam, Blue Monkey Sparkling Juice Drink, Kirkland Signature Organic Juice Boxes, Kodiak Super Fruit Syrup and the Kirkland Signature Apple Snack.

Location in Store

These fruit bars are located in the snack section at Costco, near the front of the store. The item number is 1730150.

Taste

These are really good, they remind me of an elevated, thicker fruit leather. They’re very fresh and soft but still nice and chewy. I tried each flavor and took notes on them.

The raspberry lemonade has a definite raspberry lemon flavor that’s actually really good, not too artificial tasting!

Pineapple passionfruit tastes like pineapple only, I didn’t taste any passionfruit which I find disappointing since passionfruit is one of my favorite fruit flavors.

Strawberry banana has a strong banana flavor but not a noticeable strawberry flavor, it’s still good but I wish it had more of a balance between the two flavors.

Out of the three, the raspberry lemonade is my favorite which I find really surprising. I assumed it would be very artificial tasting.

Cost

The box comes with 28 bars and costs $18.99 Canadian, which isn’t cheap. The bars aren’t big either.

Convenience

There are 12 strawberry banana bars, eight pineapple passionfruit and eight raspberry lemonade in the box. Each bar weighs 18 grams and the best-before date on the box is a year from when I bought them.

I think these bars work great for kids’ lunches or as an afterschool snack or snack on the go!

Nutrition

Calories

All three flavors contain 60 calories, zero grams of fat, 15 grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, and five milligrams of sodium.

The passionfruit pineapple and strawberry contain 14 grams of sugar and the raspberry lemonade flavor contains 13 grams of sugar.

Ingredients

The bars contain mostly organic ingredients. They’re dairy-free as well as gluten-free. They’re Non-GMO and there doesn’t appear to be any cane sugar in the ingredients.

Overall

Give it a try!

These are a decent snack option for kids, they’ll enjoy the taste and it’s a way to get some fruit into their bellies!

  1. Hi Natalie,
Did you happen to notice if these are manufactured in a peanut free facility? I have a granddaughter that has an allergy to peanuts.

    • Usually if there may be traces of nuts the ingredients states “may contain peanuts”. If it’s a severe allergy I would definitely reach out to Kashi.
