Costco Khloud Protein Popcorn Review

I’d heard of Khloud Protein Popcorn before, but I’d never tried it or spotted it at my local grocery stores. So, when I came across a bag at Costco, I decided it was the perfect opportunity to give it a try. With its high protein content, gluten-free ingredients, whole-grain popcorn, and no seed oils, Khloud Protein Popcorn sounded like an ideal snack. Unfortunately, after trying it, I found that it wasn’t for me. What didn’t I like about this popular protein snack? Read my full Khloud Protein Popcorn review to find out!

Location in Store

This is located near all the other chips at Costco like the Kirkland Signature Corn Chip Dippers and the Kirkland Signature Kettle Brand Potato Chips. The item number is 2067887.

Taste

Unfortunately, I really didn’t enjoy the taste or texture of Khloud Protein Popcorn. Unlike traditional popcorn, which has a satisfying crunch, this popcorn is surprisingly soft and has a strange, powdery, almost chalky coating that gives it a paste-like texture in your mouth. The popcorn seems to disintegrate almost immediately when you chew it, leaving behind hard, partially unpopped kernels that are difficult to chew.

The flavour is somewhat cheesy, but there’s also an odd aftertaste that I found unpleasant. Overall, the unusual texture, chalky coating, and lingering aftertaste made this Costco Khloud Protein Popcorn a snack I didn’t enjoy eating.

Cost

The 340-gram bag of Khloud Protein Popcorn costs $13.99 CAD at Costco. That’s not cheap for popcorn, but the price isn’t unreasonable considering it’s marketed as a higher-protein, healthier snack option. That’s a lot more calories and fat than regular popcorn and not even that much more protein. It leaves a thick coating on your tongue.

Convenience

The best-before date on the Khloud Protein Popcorn I purchased was about seven months from the date of purchase. Unfortunately, the bag isn’t resealable, which is a bit disappointing, but I was able to close it with an elastic band to keep the popcorn fresh.

Popcorn is a convenient snack to have on hand when you’re craving something salty and crunchy. However, Khloud Protein Popcorn falls short in the crunch department, which was another disappointment for me.

Nutrition

Calories

A 2.5-cup serving of Khloud Protein Popcorn contains 270 calories, 18 grams of fat, 16 grams of carbohydrates, three grams of fibre, three grams of sugar, 11 grams of protein, and 220 milligrams of sodium. I like the amount of fibre and protein in each serving, but the calorie count and fat content seem a little high for a snack.

Ingredients

I love that Khloud Protein Popcorn is made with olive oil, is gluten-free, and contains no seed oils. I just wish it tasted better! It’s also free of nuts, gluten, and soy, but it does contain milk and mustard, so keep that in mind if you have food allergies.
