Costco Olivieri Tortellini Review

The other night I needed something quick, convenient, and filling for dinner, so I grabbed the Olivieri 7 Cheese Rainbow Tortellini and paired it with the Kirkland Signature Basil Pesto from Costco. Since I’m a big cheese lover, I was really hoping this tortellini would deliver tons of cheesy flavor. It didn’t quite live up to my expectations though. keep reading to see why!

Location in Store

This tortellini is located in the refrigerated deli section, near the other fresh pasta like the Rana Butternut Squash Ravioli and the Kirkland Signature Spinach & Cheese Ravioli. The item number is 1391391.

Taste

This ravioli is just okay on its own, it definitely needs to be paired with a flavorful sauce or other ingredients. The cheese filling is pretty mild and there isn’t a lot of it, but the flavor is pleasant and actually quite tasty!

The tortellini isn’t too doughy, and the texture stays nice and firm without getting soggy after boiling for six minutes. The different colors of tortellini all taste the same. I paired this with pesto and it was delicious; I think it would also be great with a red sauce, but it definitely needs something to go with it.

Cost

The Olivieri Rainbow 7 Cheese Tortellini comes in a three-pack at Costco. Each pack is 750 grams, and the three-pack costs $17.49 Canadian, which works out to about $5.83 per pack. One pack is likely enough to serve a family of four, so I think the cost is quite reasonable.

Convenience

The tortellini cooks in just minutes! I boiled mine for six minutes and it turned out perfect. If you prefer a softer texture, you can boil it for the full eight. The best-before date was just over a month from when I purchased the tortellini.

If you’re not going to use it before then, I think it could be frozen without any issue. I recommend serving it with pesto, Alfredo sauce, or red sauce, and you could also add meatballs or grilled chicken for a heartier meal!

Nutrition

Calories

A one-and-a-half cup serving of tortellini contains 400 calories, nine grams of fat, 62 grams of carbohydrates, three grams of fibre, one gram of sugar, 17 grams of protein, and 600 milligrams of sodium. Both my husband and I eat more than one and a half cups for dinner, so we’re taking in quite a bit more calories and fat! That’s not ideal, considering the calories, fat, and carbohydrates are already very high.

Ingredients

The ingredients list is pretty typical for store-bought packaged fresh pasta. I like that most of the ingredients are simple and familiar. The only ingredient I don’t love seeing is vegetable oil. The tortellini contains wheat, eggs, and milk, but it’s soy-free.

Overall

Give it a try!

I’ll definitely use up this tortellini and enjoyed it overall, but I didn’t find it bursting with flavor or cheese filling. Personally, I prefer the Kirkland Signature Five Cheese Tortelloni.
