Today I’m reviewing a product that I wasn’t sure about picking up but was pleasantly surprised by. The Costco Verka Honey Almond Cookies. I’m not someone who gravitates towards basic looking cookies, I want there to be chocolate, icing, candy etc. Sean convinced me to pick these up.

Other simple cookies from Costco I’ve tried are the Lotus Biscoff Cookies, Kirkland Signature Almond Biscotti, Jules DeStrooper Belgian Butter Biscuits, Donsuemor Traditional Madeleines and the Nonni’s Limoncello Biscotti.

Location in Store

I found the Verka Honey Almond Cookies in the aisle with the cereal, syrup and jam near the other packaged cookies like Oreo’s and Aussie Bites. The item number is 1473644.

Taste

These cookies are actually pretty tasty despite non-enticing packaging and the cookies themselves looking at little boring! The cookies very subtle in flavor, a hint of sweetness and a tad bit of almond, I taste more honey than almond but I have no complaints.

Soft and slightly crumbly.

The texture of the cookies is soft, crumbly, a little dry and light. The flavor of the cookies overall reminds me of the same flavor you get when you eat animal crackers.

Cost

For $4.99 Canadian you get two packs of cookies, each pack has ten cookies in it which is really reasonable!

Ten cookies in each pack.

Convenience

The cookies come in resealable plastic containers. You can pop a container in the freezer if you like to keep the cookies fresh or keep them out on the counter. I enjoy these cookies as a mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack with a cup of tea or coffee.

The best before date on the cookies is ten months from the date I purchased them.

Nutrition

Calories

One cookie is 130 calories, seven grams of fat, 14 grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, five grams of sugar, two grams of protein and 50 mg of sodium. That’s not bad for one pretty big cookie! I especially like that they only have five grams of sugar.

Ingredients

The ingredients list is pretty straight-forward with typical cookie ingredients! Not healthy ingredients though. They contain almonds, milk, wheat and soy.

Scoring

Taste: 7.5/10

Cost: 10/10

Convenience: 10/10

Nutrition: 1/10 (for the low sugar content)

Overall

Give it a try!

Although these are super simple cookies, they’re still tasty and don’t have a ton of sugar! They’re perfect for someone who doesn’t like really sweet cookies loaded with ingredients like chocolate.
