Mango is one of my all time favorite flavors but I never would think to have mango paired with dark chocolate. I think the flavor of mango on it’s own is simple amazing and doesn’t need to be combined with anything, especially dark chocolate. I couldn’t resist trying these Costco Kirkland Signature Dark Chocolate Covered Mangoes. to find out if my hypothesis on the combination of mango and dark chocolate is right.

Other sweet treats from Costco I love are the Costco Kirkland Signature Granola, Costco MadeGood Chocolate Chip Granola Bars, Costco Kirkland Signature Raspberry Crumble Cookies, Costco Kirkland Signature Macadamia Clusters and the Costco Lindt Lindor Assorted Chocolates.

Location in Store

The dark chocolate mangoes are located in the snack section at Costco. The item number is 1410781.

Taste

There are quite a few bits of broken chocolate and chocolate crumbs in my bag, but still more than enough chocolate left on the dried mangoes. The pieces of chocolate-covered mango are irregular shapes and sizes.

Each mango piece is a unique size and shape.

They all have a generous amount of dark chocolate on the outside, though there are bare spots on some of the pieces (not many though!). My chocolate-covered mangoes are super fresh. The mangoes are nice and chewy. The flavor of the dark chocolate dominates most bites which I’m unsure about since I love mango flavor by itself so much.

Dark chocolate combined with mango is an interesting combination!

The dark chocolate is really good and I have a hard time stopping eating these. I think the dark chocolate cuts the sweetness of the dried fruit and if it were milk chocolate it would be way too sweet. The mango flavor is not distinct so if you’re really craving something with a strong mango taste than this might not be what you’re looking for.

The mango underneath adds a good amount of sweetness, but again, I can’t say the mango flavor is very noticeable. The two flavors do go well together. The combination of tastes and textures is addictive, especially with how fresh and chewy each bite is.

Cost

The 580 gram bag costs $12.79 Canadian at Costco which isn’t too expensive for a decent sized bag of dark chocolate and dried mangoes!

These are made of mangoes from the Philippines and responsibly sourced dark chocolate.

Convenience

The bag is resealable which I appreciate because my chocolate covered mangoes will stay fresh for longer. The best before date is a year from the date I purchased the mangoes.

An interested tidbit about Costco and The Sassandra Program!

Lately I’ve seen “dessert boards” that are like charcuterie boards but with desserts and sweets on them. I think these would be an awesome addition to a desserts board! They’d also be great for camping or a road trip as long as they’re kept out of the sun.

Nutrition

Calories

Nutrition wise, these are not the healthiest, three pieces are 160 calories, six grams of fat, 27 grams of carbohydrates, two grams of fibre, 17 grams of sugar, one gram of protein and three milligrams of sodium. I think we already know these are not the healthiest but most dried fruit is quite high in sugar and mangoes are particularly high in sugar, so that is probably where most of the sugar is coming from!

Overall

Give it a try!

I recommend the Costco Kirkland Signature Dark Chocolate Covered Mangoes to those that enjoy mango and also like dark chocolate. Also they’re on the sweet side so if you don’t have a bit of a sweet tooth you might find these too much.

Have you tried the Costco dark chocolate mangoes? What do you think of them?

  1. Spot on review.
I’m not usually one to post comments or reviews. However, I couldn’t help but notice your comment on how lacking in flavour the mango was. I totally agree. Up until a couple of years ago, the flavour of the mango in this product was amazing , creating a great balance of flavour with the chocolate coating. I believe that the earlier versions of the product used “autulfo” mangoes, which have a very intense, somewhat less sweet flavour than most other mangoes. It appears that the manufacturer of this product has stopped using the autulfo mango and is now using a cheaper one. So disappointing. Up until the change, I couldn’t stop buying this item. Now, after had experienced the earlier versions of this product, I simply don’t care for the current one at all.

  3. The company should definitely be called out for conflicting ingredient information. The “Contains” section lists milk, but there is no milk or dairy listed in the ingredients. If there is any dairy ingredient it can’t be hidden in some ingredient, such as the dark chocolate … it MUST be listed explicitly.

  4. These chocolate covered mangos are so delicious, but sadly I can’t find them anywhere in Costco stores or online. Could you tell me why?
