Costco Dessert Italiano Tiramisu Review

These individually-packaged tiramisu cups from Costco look pretty and taste great too!

Ready to eat individually packaged tiramisu cups from Costco!

Sean and I went to Italy back in 2019 and instead of lunch we would eat tiramisu every day. If you’re ever in Rome and want to have the best tiramisu ever, go to a place called Two Sizes. You will not be disappointed! I picked up the Dessert Italiano Tiramisu from Costco just a few weeks ago to review.

Other similar items from Costco are the Dessert Italiano Caramel Macchiato, Dolce Mia Chocolate Dream Champagne Flutes, Delici Mini Patisserie Desserts, Delici Artisan Bonbons and the Marie Morin Crème Brulee.

Location in Store

You can find the tiramisu in either the refrigerated bakery section near the cakes or in the refrigerated section by the fresh pasta. The item number is 5056000.

Taste

These Dessert Italiano Tiramisu from Costco are creamy, slightly sweet, creamy with a strong coffee flavor. This layered dessert has layers of coffee-soaked sponge cake and mascarpone cream and is finished with a dusting of cocoa powder on top.

The sponge cake is soft, light and totally drenched in coffee. The mascarpone cream is slightly sweet and very creamy. The dusting of cocoa powder on top gives this dessert a needed hint of chocolaty goodness.

One thing I notice is that the tiramisu actually tastes slightly of alcohol (marsala wine) and sure enough when I looked at the ingredients list there’s actually a tiny bit of alcohol in this dessert 1.5%!

Although these desserts are not as good as the tiramisu I had in Rome, they do taste similar to restaurant tiramisu I have here in Canada.

Cost

For 6 individual tiramisu desserts that come in little glass containers the cost is $9.99 Canadian. However, when I consider the quality of these desserts and the nice glass containers they come in I feel like the price is reasonable. These are definitely not cheap but not completely overpriced at all.

Lots of packaging but the glass containers are reusable!

Convenience

The dessert needs to be kept in the fridge. Also, the best before date is about three weeks from when I purchased the desserts.

I like to keep the tiny glass cups the tiramisu comes in and use them for orange juice in the morning or yogurt parfaits. The tiramisu cups from Costco are perfect if you are hosting an upcoming dinner or want a special dessert for Sunday family dinner.

Although there’s a ton of packaging, all you have to do is remove the top to enjoy them and the glass container is quite thick and sturdy.

Nutrition

Calories

One dessert is 220 calories, seven grams of fat, 16 grams of sugar, 32 grams of carbohydrates, four grams of protein and 55 mg of sodium.

The fat and calories actually aren’t that awful and the sugar is less than other desserts I’ve had. There’s actually less sugar in one of these desserts than in the Nature’s Bakery Fig Bars!

Ingredients

If you can’t have alcohol in your diet, you need to skip these. Additionalky, they’re not gluten-free or dairy-free. Otherwise, the ingredients list has pretty much what I would expect to see in a store-bought tiramisu.

Overall

Give it a try!

If you’re a tiramisu fan this is probably the best store-bought tiramisu I’ve tried.

Have you tried these? What did you think of them?

  1. Have always loved to buy the tiramisu from Costco, not only because I love the taste but because I love the glasses that they came in. Now they change the glasses to have a rim so you can’t use them as a little drink cups for the kids anymore… yet on the box they still show the original glasses. I’m so disappointed, is this not deceptive advertising? Is this worth losing a loyal customer over?

  2. I used to love this tiramisu (and have many little glasses to show for it that I use daily). But in July 2023, the garbage they are selling under the same logo and price is pretty outrageous. It bears no resemblance to what is being reviewed here. Even the glass containers have a new cheaper, lighter design. Like so many other businesses, Costco thinks customers are stupid and won’t notice the complete decline in quality and ingredients. I almost spit mine out when I put the first spoon in my mouth.

  4. We want to purchase this product to serve at a wedding in September 2023. Costco has been wonderful in communicating with us but are unable to guarantee they will be available at that time. Does anyone know if they can be purchased elsewhere? Thanks!

  5. Can someone find out if the glasses are microwave safe? I would like to use them for freezing then reheating veggies or soup etc.

  6. I absolutely love them. I look forward to having one after every meal. Perfect size, just enough so it doesn’t get too overwhelming. I guess you can say I’m addicted! I’m usually not a desert person but this takes the CAKE!!!

  7. Much too sweet. They have 32g of sugar which constitutes 32% of the product.
They could reduce the sugar by half and they would be much better. I don’t think I will buy these again.

  8. I just bought these and they are really good. Now, all of you who are getting all bent out of shape because they’re not “authentic”, calm down and no, they’re not exactly like homemade or what an Italian restaurant would serve but then again they’re not meant to be. They’re just a damn good little snack, not overly sweet and not too rich., and having them come in their own little glasses – bonus! And at about $1.66 each, I’ say not too shabby!

  9. Honestly, this isn’t all that good. I have never had Tiramisu before and decided to try this and all I can taste in it is alcohol. Like not even a little bit, it’s the only flavour I can actually taste in this. The rest of the ingredients only seem to serve for texture rather than actual taste. I definitely won’t be getting this again for myself and I certainly don’t recommend this to anyone. This dessert was a failure as far as I am concerned.

  10. We bought these delicious Tiramisu The best I have ever had was made by a Italian lady. I don’t bake but theses are very good. and like the small glasses. Good for Jello or pudding or juice. I’m sure there’s better out there, but, this is good enough for us

  11. I just made tiramisu with my family. We made two batches of lady fingers, a total of six eggs. It was fun using the cookie press, our two mixers (one to whip the egg whites and the other to beat the yolks, simultaneously) and baking them to perfection. Then all over again to make the pudding, which used another six eggs, with both mixers. We grated a bar of semi-sweet chocolate, used freshly made espresso, top shelf cognac and assembled the tiramisu. It was fun making this dessert. We brought it to a family dinner and it was heavenly. My point is that we have tried the Costco tiramisu, in fact, my brother who was hosting our dinner had some in the fridge. If we had opted out of making the dessert, the Costco individual servings would have been an adequate alternative.

  12. Bad take on a heavenly dessert. First of all the form factor limits the way you approach the dessert. Tiramisu is meant to be enjoyed by partaking of all the layers at once. This sorry mess gets you a spoonful topped with an absurd amount of cocoa powder and without digging for it, no coffee flavor. Second, sponge cake? Come on! The whisp of soggy cakelike component in this dish is not even reminiscent of the decadence of espresso soaked lady fingers. The lack of coffee essence except for the odd syrupy crap at the bottom of the cup makes this more of a cocoa topped pudding cup. Anyone who thinks this is even close to the wonderment of Tiramisu has never had good Tiramisu. And by the way the glass cups that they are in are absolutely useless unless you need six oversized shot glasses. The only upside is that glass is a better candidate for recycling than plastic.

    • You get all the layers in a bite by scooping downwards, because you’re right, you can’t eat from the top. Is it authentic? Of course not, it’s a Costco convenience
item. Still very delicious. The glass dishes seemed weird to me too, but you’re right, glass is recycled easier than plastic. But then the 6 glass cups are encased in a big piece of plastic, so yeah, odd.

  13. These look absolutely delicious! I bought some today and I’m wondering your thoughts on freezing a few. Do you think freezing will alter the texture or taste much? Thanks

  14. This is not a tiramisu!!! It’s an insult to the tiramisu!!! Why use honey in tiramisu?! Coffee taste?! No way!!! This tiramisu is a 0 (zero) score in everything!!!

    • LOL! There are a million ways (and ingredients) to making a tiramisu. OK, so you don’t like this one. To each their own.
If you’ve got the time, homemade is best of course, using all your favourite ingredients. But if time is on a budget, Costco’s offering is rather good. Quite good, in fact. And they come in REAL glass cups, not plastic.
Can you get a better tiramisu? Yes, at an Italian bake-a-deli. But you will pay 2 to 3 times more for only incremental improvement in flavour and texture.
