Costco constantly has new chocolate treats in the snack section near the front of the store. As a chocolate lover, I’m always excited to see a new one show up. The brand Edward Marc Chocolatier has had a couple of different offerings over the years, including these Snappers clusters. I’ve seen two different kinds of Snappers at my local Costco so far, and based on the Edward Marc website it looks like they have several more. If you’re wondering which variety of Snappers sold at Costco is the best one, you’ve come to the right place.
Other irresistible snack items from Costco I love are the Kirkland Signature Macadamia Clusters, OMG! Milk Chocolate Almond Toffee Clusters, Utah Truffles Mint Milk Chocolate Truffles, Sanders Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramels, Unreal Dark Chocolate Coconut Minis, Tru Fru Frozen Chocolate Covered Strawberries, Kirkland Signature Peanut Butter Pretzels and the Kirkland Signature Corn Chip Dippers.
Location in Store
You can find the Snappers in the snack section at Costco, near the front of the store by the Kirkland Signature Soft & Chewy Granola Bars and the Welch’s Fruit Snacks. The item number for the dark chocolate sea salt Snappers 418737 and the item number for the caramel s’mores is 1711226.
Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel & Pretzel
I really love the combination of salty and sweet. These are clusters of pretzels, dark chocolate and caramel sprinkled with sea salt. In terms of flavor and texture, they’ve got a lot going on!
They have a strong chocolaty flavor from the dark chocolate, saltiness from the sea salt, a savory salty flavor and crunchy texture from the pretzels and a chewy, creamy sweetness from the caramel.
I find them pretty addictive and actually appreciate the dark chocolate because I find it pairs well with the sea salt and the hint of bitterness from the chocolate mellows out the sweetness.
I’ll warn you right up front – these Snappers are addictive! It’s been a while since I had the Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel Pretzel Snappers. I liked them, but I think these ones are better. Maybe because I prefer milk chocolate to dark chocolate? It’s also hard to beat the classic s’more combination (and caramel is a great addition to it!).
The chocolate, graham cereal and caramel flavors and textures are all noticeable and nicely balanced. The marshmallows are a bit harder to notice.
Chocolate is the dominant ingredient, and that’s a good thing because it’s good quality chocolate. The graham cereal adds crunch and the caramel adds chewiness. The marshmallows seem to be on the hard side, but you don’t notice it when you’re eating the Snappers.
Overall, this is a rich and delicious treat. I don’t my bag will last long!
The 680-gram bag of Dark Chocolate, Sea Salt & Caramel Snappers costs $12.49 Canadian.
While the smaller 567-gram bag of the S’mores Snappers costs $13.99 Canadian. I think the S’mores Snappers cost more because there’s more to them and they’re a bit fancier. Neither of the Snappers seem overpriced to me though, they’re not cheap but not crazy expensive.
The best-before date on the dark chocolate, sea salt & caramel pretzels is nine months from when I purchased it. The bag is resealable which I love because it keeps the Snappers fresh for longer.
The best-before date on the caramel s’mores is 13 months from when we purchased them. I think kids and adults would like them similarly. Both of kinds of Snappers are great for camping, car trips, beach days or just to have as a snack at home. I think kids and adults would both like them.
Dark Chocolate, Sea Salt, Caramel & Pretzel
Three pieces contain 170 calories, seven grams of fat, 28 grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, 13 grams of sugar, two grams of protein and 260 milligrams of sodium.
The ingredients list isn’t as long as I thought it would be but that doesn’t make any of the ingredients listed healthy. The main ingredient is of course sugar and there are some other unhealthy ingredients like corn syrup, soybean and canola oil.
The dark chocolate, sea salt, caramel & pretzel snappers contain wheat, milk, soy and barley and may contain peanuts, tree nuts and eggs.
Two pieces contain 120 calories, five grams of fat, 19 grams of carbohydrates, one gram of fibre, 14 grams of sugar, one gram of protein and 60 milligrams of sodium.
The ingredients list for the s’mores kind of Snappers isn’t any healthier than the one for the dark chocolate, sea salt, caramel & pretzel ones. They contain the same unhealthy ingredients like corn syrup, canola oil, and tons of sugar! The gelatin used in the marshmallows is kosher and they contain wheat, milk and soy. They may contain peanuts, tree nuts and eggs.
Taste: 8.5/10 for the dark chocolate, sea salt, caramel & pretzel; 9/10 for the s’mores.
Give them a try for the dark chocolate, sea salt, caramel & pretzel. Must buy for the s’mores!
The S’mores Snappers are definitely better in my opinion so if you see those you must buy them! Dark chocolate, sea salt, caramel & pretzel are still great, just not as good as the s’mores!
Have you tried either kinds of these Snappers? What did you think of them?
