Costco Lindt Pralines Classiques Review

I love the classic Lindt Lindor chocolates – I wrote in my review of them that I think they’re the best mass-produced chocolates you can buy! Costco also has these Lindt Pralines Classiques chocolates this holiday season. If you find Lindor chocolates too smooth, you’ll appreciate the added texture in these pralines. They all have some crunch. Are they as tasty as Lindors though?

Other chocolates from Costco available for the holiday season are the Truffettes De France Chocolate Truffles, Turin Baileys Chocolates, Anthon Berg Liquor-Filled Chocolates, Merci European Chocolates, Godiva Masterpieces Chocolates, Ferrero Golden Gallery Chocolates, Kirkland Signature Luxury Belgian Chocolates, Galerie Au Chocolate Assorted Chocolates and the Gudrun Fine Belgian Chocolates.

The chocolates have different textures like whole hazelnuts, crunchy wafer bits and slivers of roasted almonds.

Taste

I tried each kind of chocolate and took down notes about them.

Dark cluster – This is a somewhat sweet dark chocolate mixture. The chocolate itself is smooth, but the cocoa slivers add a fair bit of crunch.

A little sweet for dark chocolate!

Sweet almond – This one has fairly strong almond extract flavor that kind of dominates the taste of the milk and white chocolate. It’s a bit artificial, but not bad.

Hazelnut gianduja – The gianduja is quite sweet and the hazelnut is crunchy. It didn’t have the typical chocolate hazelnut flavor I was expecting (like Nutella).

Quite sweet.

Hazelnut cluster – This one has a chocolate hazelnut flavor more like what I’d expect. The chocolate is smooth, but the hazelnut slivers are very crunchy.

Crunchy praline – The crunch in this one is more understated; the wafer slivers inside are more crispy than crunchy. It also has that classic chocolate hazelnut flavor, but at times I thought I also caught a hint of an almost coffee-like flavor.

Caramel cluster – This one is a bit like a Skor bar with way more chocolate and a slightly milder caramel. It’s easily my favorite one in the box.

A mild caramel flavor.

Cost

The 405-gram box costs $17.99 Canadian and contains 37 chocolates. This isn’t a cheap box of chocolates but it’s definitely not as expensive as a box containing the same number of chocolates from a local chocolatier.

The box contains 12 sweet almond chocolates and eight caramel cluster.

Convenience

The box is wrapped in plastic and has a best-before date of five months from when I purchased it. This isn’t nut-free so that makes it not the greatest gift for someone you don’t know very well.

There are a lot of the sweet almond and caramel cluster chocolates but only a small number of the others. Sean and I guessed the sweet almond and crunchy praline are probably cheaper than the others.

Nutrition

Calories

Four chocolates contain 250 calories, 16 grams of fat, 24 grams of carbohydrates, two grams of fibre, 22 grams of sugar, three grams of protein, 22 grams of sugar and 25 milligrams of sodium.

One chocolate is usually enough for me to satiate my sweet tooth so I can’t see myself eating 250 calories of these in one sitting.

Ingredients

Of course the first ingredient is sugar! The chocolates contain hazelnuts, milk ingredients and almonds. They may contain peanuts, other tree nuts and eggs. I don’t love seeing palm oil in chocolates or “flavour” because we don’t really know what “flavour” is.

Overall

Give it a try!

Lindt chocolates are always good quality and these pralines are no exception. I didn’t love the flavors in the box though. I like chocolate hazelnut, but get a bit tired of it sometimes because it’s such a common flavor. Half the chocolates in this box are some kind of variation on it.

Have you tried these Lindt Pralines Classiques from Costco? What did you think of them?
