Costco Marie Morin Crème Brûlée Review

Costco’s crème brûlée is tasty, fun and a little bit fancy!

Today I’m reviewing the Costco Marie Morin Crème Brûlée. Costco has carried some version of this for a long time and it seems to been a favorite among Costco shoppers.

Other similar desserts from Costco are the Delici Belgian Chocolate Soufflé, The Sticky Toffee Pudding Co. Sticky Toffee Pudding, Dolce Mia Chocolate Dream Champagne Flutes, Dessert Italiano Tiramisu, Delici Sea Salt Caramel Mousse and Dessert Italiano Caramel Macchiato.

Location in Store

You can find the crème brûlée in the refrigerated dessert section at Costco, by the fresh pasta and refrigerated appetizers. The item number is 5056004.

Taste

These crème brûlée are moderately sweet and very creamy! They have a custard-like texture and I love how light tasting they are. It doesn’t leave you feeling super full or like you indulged too much after enjoying one.

Creamy vanilla custard!

The custard itself is very smooth and creamy, it’s also not too firm. It’s a medium firmness so it maintains its form in the glass dish but melts in seconds in your mouth. The custard isn’t obscenely sweet but also doesn’t have any dimensional flavor going on. There’s a slight hint of vanilla but mainly just tastes to me of a simple, monotone sweet custard.

Such a light dessert!

The “burned” or caramelized sugar on top definitely increases the overall appeal of the dessert. I found it to be a little difficult to shatter into smaller pieces so I ended up having plenty of mouthfuls of big pieces of caramelized sugar and then a few of plain custard. .

Cost

These actually aren’t as expensive as I would expect them to be. You get eight crème brûlée desserts in the package for $10.99 Canadian. That’s less than $1.50 per dessert which is pretty reasonable considering the amount of packaging they come in.

Each Costco Marie Morin Crème Brûlée comes with a foil lid and attached sugar packet.

I will mention that the amount of actual crème brûlée in each dish isn’t a ton but enough to satisfy my sweet tooth!

Convenience

These need to be kept refrigerated, so make sure you have some room in your fridge for them! They also can’t be frozen – the box says do not freeze. Each dessert comes in its own individual glass bowl with a foil seal over top. There are two ways you can prepare the crème brûlée to eat it.

You can place the crème brûlée in your oven and use the broiler or you can use a kitchen torch. Each crème brûlée has an accompanying packet of sugar that you pour over top the custard and you can either set the crème brûlée in the oven to burn/caramelize the sugar or you can choose to use a kitchen torch.

Having fun with the kitchen torch.

My husband was adamant that we buy a kitchen torch for these and I have to admit it’s really fun to use! The crème brûlée also turns out really well this way.

The ingredients list is actually a lot shorter than I expect with ingredients I would expect to see and then some chemical-sounding ingredients at the end. The crème brûlée is gluten-free for anyone reading with celiac or gluten intolerance!

  1. We LOVE this Crème Brûlée! ! We have boughten at least five times and never gotten a bad one, or have had any trouble with the foil, and the topping has stayed crunchy if you don’t over heat under the broiler! Highly recommend!

  2. Moderately enjoyed. Adequate taste and feel. Nothing great. Almost always has atleast one spoiled weeks ahead of expiration. Sample size of two packs. Poor quality control and temperamental product. Costco refunded it the first time but gave me a hassle the second time saying they’d open a new package and replace the one spoiled one. Oh you sell sub par quality goods and want to nickel and dime me over your costs. What’s next you’ll replace an individual hot dog if one is defective in the package. You’ll replace the missing weight if we find saw dust in our corn flakes. Costco go talk to the manufacturer if it’s a problem. You are literally putting people at risk of getting sick and then being petty when they want a refund. Not a good look.

  3. Just bought them from Costco. 5 of the 8 sugar packets are empty. Product tastes okay but at age 81, it is very hard to remove the foil. Not Costco’s finest hour to carry this product. The buyers were served them open and probably torched.

  4. These are delicious and just the right portion size. However, as some have mentioned, 1 of the 8 was spoiled, it looked a little watery with a pinkish spot on top. It was used at least a week before the expiration date so I’m a little nervous about trying them again. It’s just my husband and I so I need them to last more than a week.

  5. I just bought these and the first two were great until I reached a very sour one. Waiting to get sick from it, botulism? I’m returning them. No excuse for this.

  6. Unfortunately, out of the eight only 5 were edible. The other three were spoiled. My daughter asked if it was supposed to taste lemony. I think not! I threw it away along with the other two that tasted sour and lemony. The expiration date is August 14. Packaged in my refrigerator the whole time.

  7. I really liked the product although I just sliced my finger open on the glass…it didn’t appear to be broken at all, although my thumb would say something completely different.

  8. These have a horrific amount of TRANS FAT, that clogs your arteries quick. people should NOT eat these if you have heart disease or have high cholesterol and all that stuff. If you value or will value your life at mid age and senior years.. please read on.

YES! these do taste great they are really a treat! and they are an amazingly delicious like a delicacy… but it comes at a price…

Trans fat is banned in so many countries
Trans fats also PERMANENTLY stays stuck to your arteries.. AND they NEVER leave the body!

These have 0.5grams of trans fat per serving, WHICH-IS-AN-INSANE-AMOUNT-OF-TRANS-FAT! this is the absolute allowable limit from Canada Inspection Food Agency.

  9. I too was excited to purchase and try. I used the broiler it was nice and bubbling hot ,cooled to hard. However, when eating it turned to a sticky toffee consistency, that took out a tiny filling. Restaurant creme brulee has a crunchy topping.
Don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Have tried broiling longer, shorter, leaving it to cool longer and shorter. Result the same. Ps. Foil residue is horrible to get off glass jar.

  11. I loved finding these, as they have always been my favorite thing on cruise ships. I will buy these over and over. I was so shocked to find them at my Costco, for I have never seen them there before. I saw some Tirimisu’s there and wonder if they are Marie Marin’s also.
