Costco Utah Truffles Review

Costco sells a couple of different kinds of these Utah Chocolate Truffles. I’ve tried the Mint Milk Chocolate ones and the Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt ones so far. They’re fairly simple chocolates with a plain chocolate shell and a melty chocolate center that has the additional flavor mixed in. There’s a lot of competition when it comes to chocolatey treats at Costco – do these truffles have what it takes to stand out?

Other chocolates I love from Costco are the Kirkland Signature Macadamia Clusters, OMG! Milk Chocolate Toffee Almond Clusters, Kirkland Signature Belgian Luxury Chocolates, Lindt Lindor Assorted Chocolates, Kirkland Signature S’mores Clusters, Gudrun Fine Belgian Chocolates, Toblerone, Truffettes De France Chocolate Truffles, Sander’s Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramels Kirkland Signature Chocolate Covered Raisins, Anthon Berg Liquor Filled Dark Chocolates and the Unreal Dark Chocolate Coconut Minis.

Location in Store

I purchased the mint chocolate truffles in Canada and the item number is 1158688.

They melt in your mouth.

The dark chocolate with sea salt truffles were purchased in Montana and the item number is 1735773. Both flavors of truffles were in the snack section at Costco, near all the other chocolates.

Taste

Mint

These truffles are the perfect combination of silky milk chocolate and mellow cool mint. They’re absolutely delicious and melt in your mouth. The chocolate is extra creamy and not too sweet. The mint flavor is noticeable but not too strong.

I can’t say mint and milk chocolate is my favorite flavor combination but I love these truffles. They’ve given me a new appreciation for the combination of mint and milk chocolate.

So smooth and creamy!

Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt

You have to like dark chocolate to enjoy these. They taste like very dark chocolate with a hint of sea salt. They’re smooth and a bit bitter and not too sweet. The flavor is intense, I almost notice a bit of a smoky flavor.

The chocolate tastes like high-quality dark chocolate and I think anyone who is a dark chocolate fanatic will enjoy these. The hint of sea salt isn’t extremely noticeable but it’s just enough. One of these is more than enough for me to curb my chocolate craving.

Very rich and not very sweet.

Cost

Mint

The 454-gram bag costs $12.89 Canadian at Costco. I think the price is very reasonable and wouldn’t hesitate to buy another bag at the same price.

Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt

The 448-gram bag costs $9.49 USD which is also very reasonable for a high-quality, big bag of delicious-tasting truffles.

Convenience

Each truffle is individually wrapped which I love because I can easily throw a few in my diaper bag or purse! It’s also great for portion control because I’m not just able to dip my hand in the bag and eat a bunch. I have to consciously unwrap them.

The best-before date on the mint truffles is about 11 months from the date I purchased them. The dark chocolate truffles are best before 10 months from when I purchased them.

Easy to pop in your purse or share with others.

I recommend storing them in a cool, dry place. I would be thrilled to receive these chocolates as a gift and I think your family member or friend would also appreciate them!

Nutrition

Calories

Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt

Two truffles contain 150 calories, 12 grams of fat, 55 milligrams of sodium, 13 grams of carbohydrates, two grams of fiber, 10 grams of sugar and two grams of protein. That’s not that much sugar for two truffles but it makes sense because they don’t taste very sweet.

Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt

From the looks of the ingredients list it doesn’t appear the dark chocolate sea salt truffles contain main. The ingredients list is very short and sweet with dark chocolate, coconut oil and sea salt being the three ingredients.

The truffles contain coconut and soy and may contain milk, eggs, almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pistachios, peanuts and wheat.

Scoring

Taste: 9.5/10 for the mint, 7/10 for the dark chocolate sea salt.

Cost: 9/10

Convenience: 10/10

Nutrition: 0/10 for the mint and 6/10 for the dark chocolate sea salt.

Overall

Must buy!

These are probably my favorite mint chocolates I’ve tried. The dark chocolate is fine but I’m just not a huge fan of dark chocolate, I like more sugar!

Have you tried these? What did you think?

  2. The Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Truffles have the best dark chocolate I’ve ever tasted. They were on sale in the St. George, UT Costco, today for $6 + and I bought 7 packages. I am storing them in my pantry because I’m sure they won’t be available after Christmas . . . which is a shame!
